NO – The President will make an announcement if any public holiday is declared.

What roads will be closed?

Roads in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town will be closed – the website will maintain a list of these arrangements

Memorial Service

What time will the memorial service at FNB stadium be?

The memorial service will begin at 11h00. Gates for the public will open at 06h00. Full details will be added to the website.

How will people see the memorial service if they cannot get into the FNB stadium?

The event will be broadcast  live by the SABC. There will be big screens outside the stadium and in venues throughout the country (details will be announced on the website)

 
Union Buildings

How will members of the public get access to the Union Buildings?

Park-n-Ride facilities will operate from Tshwane Events Centre andLC De Villiers Sports Facility. Memebers of the public will not be allowed to walk to the Union Buildings.

What are the viewing times for when Madiba’s remains lay in state at the union building?

The public can attend the lying in state as follows:
Wed 11 Dec – 12:00 – 17:00
Thurs & Fri 12&13 Dec – 08:00 – 17:00

Where are the points that the transport will leave from?

City of Tshwane Park & Ride Facilities:
• Tshwane Events Center Park & Ride 1
• LC De Villiers Sports Facility Park & Ride 2
• Fountains Valley Park & Ride 3

Will there be a cost to pay for the transport?

No

Will the coffin be open/glass for public to view the body as it travels along the streets? The remains of former president Nelson Mandela will be visible on the days he lies in state at the Union Buildings. However, during the transport of the coffin through the streets, it will be closed.

How will international media  register for accreditation if they are not in the country yet?

Please register for pre-accreditation online at http://m.gcis.gov.za/. You will be required to complete registration in person upon your arrival in South Africa.  If you experience challenges with the online registration, please contact the GCIS Information Centre at 012 473 0114 or information@gcis.gov.za for alternative arrangements.

Can SA journalists use drivers licenses for identification for accreditation process at NASREC? SA Journalists are advised to use their ID book or new ID card.
