Programme for the official memorial service

The nation mourned Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela at a number of memorial services which were held at several venues to give everyone the opportunity to attend.

The official memorial service took place on Tuesday, 10 December at FNB stadium in Johannesburg.

The President of the Republic of South Africa Jacob Zuma addressed the official memorial service.

The programme included tributes by Heads of State from the various regions of the globe, the continent and representatives of international and regional organisations.

Government arranged for free public transport and park and rides to accommodate mourners and ensure that they are able to get to the Stadiums on time.

The memorial service at FNB was broadcast  live by the SABC.

Overflow venues and big screens outside the stadium catered for those who could not get to the stadium.
